157 - Regular Session. Rural Contexts as Spaces of Inequality, Power, and Identity

Sun, August 23, 8:30 to 10:10am, TBA

Session Submission Type: Paper Session

Abstract

The papers in this section address how rural contexts give rise to different forms of inequality, power relationships, and political identities. The papers incorporate rural context into the analysis of distinct forms of inequality such as limited employment opportunities, access to health services, and risks of environmental hazards. The papers address power relationships important to the analysis of rural populations and consider place-identity as a factor of why rural populations may differ from their urban counterparts. The papers span poor regions in the U.S. and globally.
