216 - Section on Racial and Ethnic Minorities Invited Session. Race, Space, Integration, and Inclusion

Sun, August 23, 10:30am to 12:10pm, TBA

Session Submission Type: Invited Session

Abstract

In putting together the inaugural issue for ASA’s Section on Racial and Ethnic Minorities premier journal, Sociology of Race and Ethnicity, the editors researched what subfields where either underrepresented in race and ethnicity scholarship, or had gained little to no traction in terms of new and cutting-edge research in the past decade. This session represents the first of those areas highlighted in the inaugural issue of Sociology of Race and Ethnicity: race, space, integration, and inclusion. From so-named race-neutral policies, to white spaces and the conundrums of integration, panelists will discuss the current state of affairs in the area, to include addressing their own and others research shortcomings, new directions in the subfield, and their thoughts on what needs to happen in the area of race and space moving forward.
