Development of a Prison Aggression Perception Scale

Sat, August 20, 8:30 to 9:30am, TBA

Abstract

The research seeks to create a valid and reliable measure of prison aggression as the incarcerated populations see it. Previous measures of aggression and violence were looked at with their validity and reliability being a primary concern, no measures of prison aggression from the prison sample currently exists. The questionnaire under investigation (P-PAPS) seeks to be launched in a pilot study program to assess whether the population believes the questions represented will be able to accurately assess the variables. Future applications of this will be to create coping strategies and programs that will help lessen the effects of aggression on the population in hopes of creating safer prisons for the inmates and the guards. Included is the research on previous aggression and violence scales, the directions for administration, the informed consent for testing phase, the scale, and the scoring criteria with score ranges.
