Towards an Assessment Model for International Service Learning

Mon, August 22, 8:30 to 10:10am, TBA

Abstract

International service learning as part of Sociology travel classes requires multiple assessment components. Student learning outcomes are only part of the picture, as site based needs must be assessed from afar, and service outcomes must also be assessed. For instructors using remote sites, with successive groups of students, the challenges of this kind of teaching are extreme. Robust assessment is crucial on all levels. Using data collected from 7 years of international service learning, this paper is an attempt to create a multi-tiered model for the assessment of remote site-based service learning.
