Mon, August 22, 8:30 to 10:10am, TBA

Abstract

Using a social constructionist theoretical approach, this study examines the effect of media exposure and fear of crime among residents in New Orleans, LA pre- and post-Hurricane Katrina. The findings revealed significant associations in predicting fear based on media exposure and audience effects. Additional findings revealed a positive relationship between constraining behaviors and fear of crime.
