Abstract

In this paper, I discuss the polemics of doing research on black-white couples as a black second-generation Nigerian immigrant woman in Los Angeles and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I discuss issues surrounding the finding and categorization of black-white couples in both sites. I also discuss negotiating the Looking Glass Self and DuBois' notion of double consciousness, including the construction of the Angry Black Woman in the US and Africanness in Brazil.
