About Annual Meeting
The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of perceived climate for diversity on cognitive outcomes among Latino college students attending U.S. selective institutions. A one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and multiple regression will be used to examine within group difference among college students, particularly by socioeconomic status, gender, and immigration status among Latinos. The goal is to expand upon the anti-deficit achievement scholarship on Latino college student success by conducting a quantitative study using 2014 University of California Undergraduate Experience Survey data. Additionally, this study attempts to identify the meaningful institutional practices and climate that positively contributes to outcomes associated with this population, as well as identify practices that impede growth in the cognitive outcomes of Latino college students at selective institutions. Ultimately, findings may reveal insight as to how higher education institutions can become more equity-minded in their interaction with Latino college students and their intersectional identities related to socioeconomic status, gender, and immigration status.
