About Annual Meeting
The paper looks at the problem of dispossession and resistance movement resulted as a consequence of development projects in Kalinga Nagar Industrial Complex in Odisha, India. While analysing the problems the paper considers some of the important variables such as past resettlement policy and implementation, emergence of grass root mobilization followed by alliance formation, increase in consciousness about dispossession and rise of consciousness of opportunities among some group of people, internal differentiation both among local people and interest groups, and state strategy to argue how these factors initiated conflict and mobilized resistance movement against dispossession in Kalinga Nagar Industrial Complex. It looks displacement-caused resistance in a phased manner in relation to the participation of various interest groups. Based on ethnographic fieldwork, case study, oral history, focus group discussion and secondary data, the paper broadly explicates the politics of dispossession and causes, emergence and dynamics of resistance movement in Kalinga Nagar Industrial Complex. It also delves into the phases of resistance, interest group formation and participation, split and decline of the movement.
