About Annual Meeting
This research examines 3,485 comments and 30 original posts from the popular website Reddit to analyze men and women’s participation in the non-normative sex practice, pegging. Pegging challenges expectations of appropriate heterosexuality. Data indicate that heteronormativity and homophobia structure sexual interactions and our cultural reality of what is meant by “having sex”. Results reveal that men and women undergo heteronormative panic once pegging is introduced into a relationship. This panic is a result of challenging the heteronormative reality of sex.
