Changing Tides? Men and Women’s Wages and Transfers to Parents

Mon, August 22, 10:30 to 11:30am, TBA

Abstract

The U.S. population is aging and data shows increasing proportions of adult children care taking for elderly parents. While caregiving is still generally seen as a private, family affair, the question remains whether there have been shifts in the gendered pattern of caregiving for elderly parents. The current study will use the Panel Survey of Income Dynamics 2013 Rosters and Transfers Module to investigate the intersection of work and family in regards to gendered patterns of transfers to elderly parents. This is a follow up of the Couch et al. (1999) study which utilized the 1988 module and will be used for comparison of trends.
