About Annual Meeting
Research on the causes and consequences of egalitarianism blossomed in the last decades, in part due to the availability of data. Yet newer representative data sets are scarce, so it has been difficult to judge whether the relationship between egalitarianism and other household characteristics has changed. To address this concern, in 2014 the first author surveyed a nationally representative sample of heterosexual married couples in the United States. Respondents reported their own and spouse’s time spent doing housework in a given week. Results confirm previous findings regarding the division of household labor, the impact of gender ideology, and sexual frequency.
