About Annual Meeting
This article looked at determinants of tolerance in Turkey based on World Values Survey- Wave 6. In particular, I looked at the effects of ethnic homogeneity and heterogeneity on tolerance level, using two proxy measures to estimate homogeneity and heterogeneity. Using data from 1227 Turkish respondents, this study found that education attainment of respondents effected people’s tolerance level, also supported by previous literature. I found no evidence for contact theory but for competition theory that lower class groups have less tolerance than higher-class groups. I also found no statistically significant evidence for positive effect of ethnic diversity (heterogeneity) on tolerance. Lastly, I found evidence for effect of secular (leftist) on tolerance level that conservative people have less tolerance level.
