About Annual Meeting
This paper investigates the extent to which parents transmit their educational advantages simultaneously through their children’s health and academic achievement. To do this, I examine the co-occurring trajectories of health and achievement in a national sample of elementary school students. I first identify latent groupings of children defined by both their achievement and health trajectory patterns. I use achievement in mathematics as a key indicator of children’s educational development and obesity as a key indicator of children’s health development. Then, I examine the extent to which parental education predicts group membership.
