Do spatial-temporal patterns constitute a neighborhood characteristic that influences outcomes? This paper seeks to investigate this issue and brings time into the study of neighborhoods and neighborhood effects. Using time use data and the American Community Service I ask: 1) To what degree do neighborhoods with varying levels of poverty exhibit different temporal structures at the individual and group levels? 2) What is the role of neighborhood compositional and institutional/structural variation on spatial temporal patterns? Why and how do these factors shape neighborhood temporal patterns? 3) Why and how do certain temporal patterns constitute neighborhood disadvantage?
