Session Submission Type: Workshop
The National Science Foundation (NSF) supports sociological research that uses the full range of social science methodological approaches that includes qualitative methods. Yet, an ongoing and persistent myth is that the NSF does not fund research that uses qualitative techniques. The NSF Sociology Program supports qualitative research proposals via its general program announcement and an ongoing program solicitation, Strengthening Qualitative Research through Methodological Innovation and Integration. Presenters will discuss how to prepare competitive qualitative research proposals; the NSF peer review system and review process; and the application of the NSF evaluation criteria to qualitative research. They will also share their experiences in developing, reviewing and securing funding for projects that reflect various qualitative approaches as well as qualitative methodological innovations and the integration. The session is interactive: audience participation is encouraged.
