Session Submission Type: Paper Session 100min
The papers in this session offer varied looks at patterns of educational privilege and inequality. Two address inequalities in higher education, but from very different perspectives. One analyzes the effects of state policies allowing in-state tuition for undocumented immigrants. The second considers a more privileged population, providing a new look at the payoffs to graduating from selective colleges. A third paper takes an ethnographic view of the realities of how Hartford, Connecticut’s school choice program works for minority and poor parents. The final paper offers a broad, cross-national assessment of math achievement, asking, in particular, what types of instructional policies and funding levels produce high average math achievement and result in reduced SES gaps in math learning.
