Description

Conversations among sociologists studying social movements concern research questions, theories, methods, and findings that often are of great interest to others in the discipline. These conversations, however, largely exclude activists’ insights and generally offer little that assists activists in achieving social change. This session helps to change the conversation by bringing together scholars, activists, and scholar activists to present and to discuss movement relevant research (e.g., research that informs and evaluates recruitment, communication, organizational cultures and structures, decision making processes, strategies, tactics, and post-action reflection; research that forms part of action plans). Submissions on research conducted jointly by activists and scholars are particularly welcomed. Selected participants will be encouraged to present their findings in accessible and unconventional ways.
