Session Submission Type: Paper Session 100min
This session offers five thought-provoking perspectives on gender and work. The featured papers range from a state-level analysis of how labor force sex composition relates to the rate of sex discrimination filings, to a cross-national analysis of how occupational sex composition relates to pay in care-based occupations. Two papers involve studies of lawyers, but in very different ways: One tests factors affecting lawyers' exit from private practice, while another experimentally tests perceptions of lawyers (and social workers') competence and warmth. The fifth paper explores how women imagine themselves as leaders, and examines strategies that women use to pursue organizational leadership positions.
