Abstract

This paper outlines a multi-dimensional approach to understanding nationalisms, detailing the emergence of contemporary Hindu nationalism in Nepal as a case study. I argue that analysis of nationalisms should incorporate three central features: the objective political conditions; the subjective cultural conditions; and the dynamics within the sub-field of nationalism. This approach thus serves to synthesize discrete analytic approaches common to studies of nationalism, political action, and social movements.
