(I Want To) Change the World: An Analysis of Future Orientation of Homeless Youth in Atlanta

Sun, August 12, 8:30 to 9:30am, Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, Floor: Level 5, Salon G

Abstract

The Atlanta Youth Count and Needs Assessment 2015 is a survey of homeless youth in Atlanta. This thesis uses a qualitative question examining the dreams and aspirations of homeless youth to examine the range and types of future orientations individuals’ experience. In addition to that, there is an examination of demographic factors and their influence on the strength of future orientations. While most demographic data does not influence the strength of future orientation, the status of being lesbian or gay has a negative effect on the strength of future orientation. Using strength based examinations, like future orientation, has been shown to have better services for youth.
