About Annual Meeting
I propose to investigate several factors that may influence the career destinations of Chinese international students. Career destination refers to where groups of students work after graduating from college in the United States. The social and economic factors discussed in this proposal derive from two different perspectives. From the macro-perspective, international students in U.S. higher institutions are perfect examples of highly skilled immigrants. Therefore, the Donald Trump presidency could jointly influence their choice of career destination. At the micro-level, individual characteristics (such as family economic status, gender roles, and the choice of major) might also impact personal choices with regard to career destination. In effect, this study will contribute to our current understanding of the global migration of high-skilled workers and student mobility in U.S. higher institutions.
