3482 - Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Sociology? An Open Discussion

Mon, August 13, 2:30 to 4:10pm, Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, Floor: Level 5, Salon E

Session Submission Type: Invited Session

Description

The academy proclaims to value diversity and inclusion on the race, gender, class, and sexual orientation. However, its practices often fall short. This general pattern is unfortunately reproduced in our departments and in the discipline at large. This Town Hall will critically assess how sociology deals with inequality within its midst. Our hope is to engage in meaningful dialogue and provide a frank and honest evaluation of the reality of various forms of inequality in the discipline. The format will include brief comments from experts whose research focuses on inclusion broadly construed. Their presentations will be followed by questions, comments, and testimonies from the audience.
