1258 - Law and Sex

Sat, August 11, 10:30am to 12:10pm, Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, Floor: Level 4, 413

Session Submission Type: Paper Session 100min

Description

Despite its private qualities, sex is shaped by "law." From commodification to exploitation, from social control to consent, legal actors and legal systems have attempted to govern sex and sexuality. This panel consists of ground-breaking research on how "law" tries to influence sex and sexuality. Its papers examine international, national, and local evidence surrounding questions involving predators, prostitution, trafficking and exploitation, and rape. This session will appeal to sociologists studying law, sexuality, crime and deviance, economic sociology, and other questions law and society scholars ask.
