Latinos/as occupy positions in the U.S. socio-economic and racial hierarchies that leave them subject to physical, social, and emotional vulnerabilities. Among these vulnerabilities is that Latinos/as, along with other minorities, are often disproportionately affected by environmental disasters, which inevitably transfer into social disasters and harmful consequences to Latino/a communities. This panel seeks to bring together papers that address Latino/a experiences of natural hazards and the ensuing social disasters, and the implications for the vitality of Latino/a communities.
