Session Submission Type: Paper Session 100min
This session on Criminal Justice will reveal various sociological approaches to empirically assessing the various points of entry, procession through, exit from, and re-entry onto the "carceral continuum." These papers use multiple methods and data to uncover the intersections of race, gender, sexuality, and/or place on the stigmatization and punishment that marginalized groups experience when in contact with agents/systems of criminal punishment. These investigations are critical in an era of declining crime coupled with expanding penal surveillance and control.
