Preparing Graduate Students for the New Academic Market: Old Narratives, New Narratives, and What Departments Can Do

Abstract

This presentation will draw from ongoing discussions and research on what narrative graduate students hear about the academic market and the roles they are professionalized into while training for their PhD. The presentation will illustrate what departments can do to help better prepare their graduate students for the decline of tenure, including alternative academic careers.
