In the 1980s my work was part of a debate about Chicanos and Sociology, "Sociology of Chicanos or Chicano Sociology?" (Baca Zinn 1981, Mirande 1982). This paper will revisit some of the issues in that debate and bring them into the 21st century. I will present an overview of relevant past and present themes in sociological work on Latinos, illustrating how today's scholarship both builds on and differs from the foundational work of the 1960s through the 1980s. I will identify exemplars, tenets, and distinguishing features of current sociological research on Latinos to pose the question -- Is there a distinctive Latino Sociology paradigm?
