Contingency in Sociology: ASA’s Task Force and Next Steps

Abstract

Since 2016, members of ASA’s Task Force on Contingent Faculty have examined and documented the trend toward precarious employment within the discipline, along with the working conditions of the contingent faculty who hold these positions. At the close of this three-year commitment, this presentation reflects on what the task force has found and shares the recommendations that have been made to the ASA Council. Next steps will also be addressed.
