Complex Inequalities

Sat, August 10, 8:30 to 10:10am, New York Hilton, Floor: Second Floor, Gibson

Abstract

My presentation examines the challenge of theorizing complex inequalities, particularly the “big four” of race, gender, sexuality, and class. What terms or metaphors capture what we are trying to theorize? “ Intersectionality has become the predominant idiom, but interlocking systems, matrix of domination, co-formations, and assemblages, have been proposed as alternatives. What are the perceived advantages
and disadvantages of these frameworks? What do they highlight and what do they obscure? What constitutes “good” intersectional research?
