“Who Had To Die So I Could Go Camping?”: Colonial Ecological Violence, And Solidarity

Abstract

In this article I draw on interviews with 21 non-Native identified people who have attempted to undertake solidarity actions with Indigenous peoples in the United States. I focus on solidarity in movements and actions aimed at promoting the ecological and cultural integrity of places. I consider the way these solidarity participants describe their relationships to place, their engagements with solidarity, and their perceptions of and participation in environmental movements both before and after engaging in solidarity with Indigenous peoples.
