Nearly half of first your students take classes at community colleges. This means that, more than ever, community colleges are at the forefront of socializing students to the discipline. The crowded and competitive job market has also guided more and more sociologists toward working at community colleges. This panel will discuss recent issues involved with teaching at community colleges such as diversity, retention, applied learning, combining research with teaching, and moving from adjunct to full-time positions. In addition, we will discuss success in teaching careers at community colleges.
