Gender Role Attitudes and Gender Responsive Budgeting in State Politics

Mon, August 12, 4:30 to 5:30pm, New York Hilton, Floor: Second Floor, Sutton North

Abstract

Considering the lack of studies on state-level gender role values, in the first part of this paper, I will address the questions of: (1) how can we measure gender role values at the state level? (2) Do states exhibit similar levels of gender role attitudes?(3) Do subnational levels gender role values fluctuate over time? I use multilevel regression and post-stratification (MRP) to create time varying, state level estimates of gender role attitudes to begin to answer these questions. After studying the distribution of gender role attitudes at state-level, I plan to study how public opinion influence policy-making and state-level budgeting.
