From Being a Cross-dresser to Becoming a Woman: Femininity Against Patriarchy

Abstract

While there is a lot of media attention on trans people, it is still nonetheless rare for people to encounter a trans woman in an every day situation. In this paper I reflect on the ways that dressing as a woman has affected me in my socially situated subjectivity. It draws on both Lacan and Deleuze and Guattari to theorise the 'problem' of feminine adornments for men and femininity more generally which, it is claimed, can as a mode of expression liberate the male from the masculine ego that negatively affects us all.
