Teaching while Touring
Take a tour when a PowerPoint lecture, classroom discussion, or a video is not good enough to stroke student learning. Do you have sociological course concepts that your students can witness on your campus or nearby? It’s certain you do, so why not take them out of the classroom for the day and take them on a tour. Teaching while touring helps your student experience course material in a new way. This session will address the “do’s and don’ts” of teaching while touring such as using digital visual aids and optimal group sizes. This session will also help participants to brainstorm ideas on their campus and offer best practice suggestions. Tours of environmental sustainability practices at the College of Southern Idaho and of Minidoka National Historic Site in South Central Idaho will be used as examples in this session.
