Sexting has been defined as the exchange of sexually explicit materials via electronic means, such as text message or social media, and it has been emerging as a trend among young adults. This qualitative research project seeks to understand the extent of this phenomenon among college women, situating the practice within hookup culture. Using focus group data, this article examines how and why young women engage in sexting. Results show that young women do not approach sexting casually, although many do it to add "spice" to their relationships.
