Abstract

In most societies it is taken for granted that there is a benefit for individuals in achieving a higher level of education. Japan is no exception. After a thorough analysis of the Japanese data, however, we found a declining trend in the correlation between the measures of educational attainment and occupational status (Nakao et al. 2016). We tried to investigate why.
We looked to see whether other countries experience a similar trend. So, we analyzed the Census data from various countries. In this paper, we examine the data from mostly modernized societies from Europe and Western countries such as the United States. Conducting correspondence analysis, we discuss our findings in this paper in detail.
