How do people without formal business training determine the prices for their goods? Craftspeople regularly rely upon organizations to create and maintain the marketplaces in which they sell, though the connection between the two is generally transactional. This paper goes a step further to see if and how organizations play a role in how craftspeople set prices. Through an analysis of posts by Etsy on the "how" of pricing alongside interviews with craftspeople, this paper highlights the often conflicting, contradictory, and seemingly incompatible ways in which advice and price, organizations and those who rely upon them, do not necessarily align in their logics.
