Report about Case Studies on Community Based Older People’s Self–help Group in Japan

Tue, August 13, 10:30am to 12:10pm, Sheraton New York, Floor: Third Floor, New York Ballroom West

Abstract

Population aging is becoming a serious concern in the global level; as a result, countries across the world are trying to make up for the demand of care giving for older people by creating efficient and effective health care system. CBSI (Community Based Social Innovation), which is based on the idea of self-help and mutual-help among older people in the community, has been emerging as a new approach to promote healthy aging. To introduce functions of CBSI in Japan, we conducted three case studies in 2017. Four main questions to answer are: (1) What are the core roles and functions of CBSI for healthy aging that seek to support older people to self-care and maintain their well-being? (2) How do CBSI and local health service systems are related to each other? (3) How do the current form of CBSIs' activities relate to aging policies and funding? (4) What is the effectiveness of CBSIs in the community?
