Transgender Sex Workers in India and the Politics of Queer Social Responsibility

Abstract

Based on 16 months of ethnographic research among transgender sex workers in India, this article argues that class position and respectability politics limit and shape the experiences of transgender women. However, transgender sex workers respond to erasure of their existence by developing what I name a "politics of queer responsibility."
