Age-Related Stigma of Young Latino/a College Students

Abstract

Despite increases in numbers of college students who are younger than 18, little is known about the age-related stigma they face while attending universities. Using interview data from 15 young Hispanic students at one university, results showed that they managed their age-related stigma through impression management strategies and through modifying their path to achieve their long-term goals. While it seems that these students are coping well, when they feel too young, it influences them to postpone their post-graduation plans.
