The Contradictions of Neo-Patrimonialism

Abstract

A wide variety of scholars have interpreted the contemporary political moment through the lens of the thirties. However I propose a different conceptual framework. What is occuring today across the advanced capitalist world is the re-emergence of a form of domination that Weber initially theorized as "patrimonialism". The paper traces the origins of this form from Berlusconi to Trump.
