The Weberian analysis of traditional authority before the advent of modern capitalism and modern goal-rational, instrumental bureaucratic systems has been neglected by sociologists interested in patriarchy. This paper attempts to clarify Weber's Ideal Type Models of patriarchal Patrimonial-prebendal and patriarchal Patrimonial-feudal traditional systems of legitimate authority and domination (Herrschaft). Reference is also made to Neo-patrimonialism, a concept that was once popular in the analysis of the global South (then called "underdeveloped nations"). The link between Feminist concerns about patriarchy and Weberian (or Neo-Weberian) ideas has been obscure in part because even Weber scholars often seem to not fully grasp the full intent of Weber's ITM of Patrimonialism.
