Sun, August 11, 2:30 to 4:10pm, New York Hilton, Floor: Second Floor, Sutton Center

Abstract

Microaggressions based on race, gender and disability are prevalent in both academic and social spaces on college campuses and have consequences for student rates of success and failure. Microaggressions are brief and often commonplace verbal, behavioral, or environmental indignities. Whether intentional or unintentional, that communicate hostile, derogatory, or negative slights and insults toward people of color, women, people with disabilities, LGBTQ individuals and other marginalized groups (Sue, et al, 2007; Sue, 2010). This article presents findings connected to microaggressions on campus experienced by Black deaf female college students.
