The Philippines is a developing nation currently in the midst of social and political change. Despite being a mostly traditional, predominately Christian country, Filipino women find themselves on considerably more even footing in terms of gender equity than those living in other Asian countries, affording them opportunities that may elude them elsewhere. This study utilized surveys conducted in the Philippines to aid in the characterization of the impacts of gender egalitarianism and non-traditional gender ideologies on the mental health of Filipino women. Results suggest that the presence of non-traditional gender ideologies in the home remain as a predictor of improved mental health, potentially as an extension of strengthened social support networks and ability to manage stress.
