The Digital Divide: Who Doesn't Have Internet Access?

Sun, August 11, 12:30 to 2:10pm, New York Hilton, Floor: Second Floor, Rhinelander Gallery

Abstract

This poster highlights using choropleth mapping techniques on the Census Bureau's website and which areas of the country (with some focus on the greater NYC area) lack internet accessibility. The large coloured map format draws people into it and helps researchers to analyse why certain areas are deprived of access, and what those implications are on the local populations. Census Bureau employees at hand will explain how the data is derived, and displayed, and how users may manipulate those maps to get a variety of "pictures." This poster is meant to be interactive with the passing audiences.
