2341 - Environment, Oppressions, and Justice I

Sun, August 11, 12:30 to 2:10pm, Sheraton New York, Floor: Lower Level, Sutton Place

Session Submission Type: Paper Session 100min

Description

These sessions are designed to further investigate the persistence of oppression and privilege in environmental spaces, including outdoor recreation, the state, universities, academic professional associations, nonprofit organizations, industry, and more. Papers in this session investigate the shape of, roots of, consequences of, and challenges to environmental injustices that exist along (often intersecting) lines of race, class, indigeneity, nativity, gender, and other forms of status. We encourage papers that employ theories and methods that have not been widely used by environmental sociologists but which could strengthen environmental sociology.
