Session Submission Type: Paper Session 100min

Description

Sociologists have long been champions of justice and equity in the classroom and we are well aware of how stratification is perpetuated in the academic setting and the role that faculty play in breaking down barriers. The challenge before us is knowing if it is working or not, and how can we do more without exhausting ourselves in the process. This session will present scholarship that explores a range approaches strategies for creating our most inclusive classrooms. Possible topics include: barriers in our classrooms, effective syllabus audits, choosing resources, discussing difficult topics, implicit biases in grading and assessment practices, universal design in learning, confronting our professorial privilege, inclusivity in large classes, and more.
