This session invites papers that consider how law constrains, enhances, and regulates state power. This includes papers that investigate the relationship between law and state power domestically, comparatively, and internationally. Possible topics include the relationship between legal systems and policy processes; law, democracy, and populism; the role of criminal justice institutions; legal approaches to managing dissent or international crises; the role of law in globalization; or the relationship between law and political economy.
