Session Description
Mentoring plays a critical role in professional success and personal well-being. Particularly for women, scholars of color, queer scholars, first-gen scholars, and scholars with disabilities, mentoring has been shown to make a significant difference in career outcomes. Yet, the skills to cultivate and sustain effective mentoring relationships are too often part of the “hidden curriculum” of higher education.
This workshop—designed for scholars across career stages—provides professional development for mentors and mentees. Attendees will develop or deepen their mentoring tool kit, reflecting on their own needs and strengths as both a mentor and mentee. Attendees will identify their areas of mentor needs and build a mentoring network map to address those needs. Presenters from a variety of institutional settings and career stages will share their experiences of navigating mentoring relationships as both mentors and mentees.
