This session focuses on the relationship between community and social justice--how communities organize to pursue transformational change and the challenges and resistance they negotiate. The papers on this panel speak to issues ranging from local governance, power, and race/racism to identity, values, and emotions. Each paper highlights both the dynamic struggle and the crucial importance of forming community and doing activism in a social justice context.
